Deception = 90% Truth and 10% Lies

| March 9, 2011

More damage is done to Christians by their own pastors, teachers, priests, and ministers than by their avowed enemies. This is because many Christians trust that their leaders are telling them the truth, without verifying what they say in God’s Word, and are lead away into deception.

Be careful, for deception is 90% Truth and 10% Lies.

Oh some would say when asked if their church teaches God’s Word that, “Yes, our church is Bible based; our pastor reads 3 verses every sermon”.

But there is a big difference between a Bible “based” church and a Bible “teaching” church.

In a Bible “teaching” church, the pastor teaches God’s Word chapter-by-chapter and verse-by-verse in context. While in a Bible “based” church, the pastor merely quotes verses from the Bible here and there and then rambles on for a half an hour or so, telling stories or using emotionalism; while many times pulling the verses completely out of context to make them conform to his sermon.

Beloved, you must be able to document in the Bible whether or not your Pastor is teaching correctly or not. Including me. Always check out what I say for yourself. No man is perfect. We all are capable of making mistakes.

This is your responsibility. Do not put your trust in man. Trust in God!

This “modern’ style of preaching where preachers quote a verse here and there to support their messages can be extremely misleading, because even when verses are taken out of context the message appears to be Biblical.

(Keep in mind, the article you are reading now is not meant to be a verse-by-verse study. Our verse-by-verse studies are available at our YouTube Channel)

Did you know that quoting a verse here and there out of context is Satan’s main method of deception? Being the master of deception he knows how to make a lie appear as the truth. He does so by blending together truth with lies. And would you believe that he even attempted this on Christ!

As it is written:

And when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Then the devil taketh Him up, into the holy city, and setteth Him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto Him, “If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down: for it is written, ‘He shall give His angels charge concerning Thee: and in their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest at any time Thou dash Thy foot against a stone.’” –Matthew 4:6

Do you see what happened here? First Satan tried to tell Jesus that if He was truly the Messiah He would make the stones into bread. And beloved many times Satan tries to pervert the True Gospel by preaching a “Social Gospel”. A gospel that says we should concentrate on feeding the poor and end world hunger through redistribution of wealth. (Marxism disguised as Christianity)

Next Satan misquotes and pulls out of context Psalms 91:11-12 and even omitted a couple words to add his own. Do you know what he changed? I’ll leave this as a home assignment for you.

Other times deceivers like Barack Obama will try and smoke-screen you right away. Before he talks he will say things like, “Now let me be real clear”, and then goes on babbling and saying anything but that which is clear. But many people believe he is saying something clear because he told them that it was.

You know I visited a church recently where the Pastor started out his sermon by saying that he didn’t support a Social Gospel. But then he went on and taught a whole sermon on it! Another example is a very well known pastor in America who said that, “The Social Gospel is Marxism dressed in Christianity”, but he is actually a leading proponent of the Social Gospel.

Beloved:

“The simple believeth every word: But the prudent man looketh well to his going.” –Proverbs 14:15

Some would say, “Why does it have to be so hard to discern whether someone is teaching the truth or not.”

But it really isn’t that hard if you study God’s Word chapter-by-chapter and verse-by-verse, on a continual basis. You’ll be able to spot liars a mile a way, because you will be standing on a solid foundation. Besides being able to discern truth from lies, it proves your love towards God, because if you truly love Him you will seek His Truth rather than the words of men. God’s Word really isn’t difficult to understand if you put forth the effort.

Jesus teaches us how to discern a deceiver. He says:

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits, Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth for evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit…Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” –Matthew 7:15-20

In other words, Jesus tells us to beware of the 10% lies of the false teachers. When you detect bad fruit on their tree know that the whole tree is corrupt. Don’t allow yourself to be deceived even if the rest of it looks good. We live in a generation where many of our Christian churches have been hijacked by false teachings and deception. Always stick to God’s Word rather than the words of men and you will never be lead astray.

God Bless,
Pastor Ben Heath
