| Faith and Trust By Ben Heath Without “faith” and “trust” in God we cannot withstand the Forces of Evil, so we must train ourselves to have it. How do gain more faith? Well “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom 10:17) In other words, we study God’s Word and believe it! Make no mistake about it, as you grow and mature as a Christian you will be tested. Things in your life will happen to you or you will be brought to a certain situation where God can see by your thoughts or actions whether or not you truly have faith in Him. (Psalms 7:9) It may be that after you’ve studied the Bible and learned some great stuff that someone will come along and say to you, “Do you really believe that stuff?” and smirk at you. You may run into a situation in your life where it looks like there is no way out for you; you lost your job, your husband or wife left you, or some other hardship. And you will come into situations where you have to decide whether you will go along with the ways of the world or follow God. There are many ways that our “faith” gets tested, sometimes on a daily basis without us even realizing it at. No matter what happens or what the situation is we must always have the attitude that GOD WILL SEE US THROUGH. Why does God test our faith? The answer is simple. He wants to know whether we truly love Him or not, because without faith it is impossible to love God. So it is important to him, just as it is important to us that our family and our loved ones have faith and trust in us. Have you ever seen a marriage where one person doesn’t trust the other? You probably noticed that marriage was suffering. Our Heavenly Father loves us very much and he will always be there to help us if we love Him, trust Him, and have faith in Him. A perfect example of God helping those who trust in Him was when God blessed the Founding Fathers of our great nation – America, the country with the motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The majority of America’s Founding Fathers were Bible reading Christians who sought “liberty” and “freedom” from tyranny. With their faith in God they overcame great obstacles. Any student of history knows that the situation looked grim for the early Americans seeking independence. But as God can do and has done many times throughout history, he can take a seemingly impossible situation and make it possible—if we have faith. Thus, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20-21) |
